Ethnomechanica World Music&Arts Festival
at Sergey Kuryokhin Contemporary Art Center

St. Petersburg, Russia, September 25-28, 2008

The International World Music&Arts Festival "Ethnomechanica" is
organised by Sergey Kuryokhin Charity Foundation in September, 25-28th at Sergey Kuryokhin Center of the Modern Art.
The festival will take place for the first time, but already claims to become a considerable event in the city's cultural life.
Artists from different countries and of course from Russia take part in the festival. Not only music, but also performances, documentary and feature films, workshops will be presented at the festival.

The participants of the festival are ORANGE BLOSSOM (France), ALAMAAILMAN VASARAT (Finland), ZDOB SI ZDUB (Moldova), SEREBRYANNAYA SVADBA (Belarus), NAMGAR (Buryatiya), GENERAL LEVY (UK) & JACKY MURDA (USA) &G - FORCE SOUND (Germany), Psoy Korolenko (Russia), Garik Osipov (Russia) , LA MINOR (Russia), SKAZY LESA (Russia), NERVENKLINIK(Russia), VOLGA (Moscow), SWING COUTURE(Russia) , BELORYBITSA (Russia), PTITSA TYLOBURDO (Russia), IVA NOVA (Russia), atlantida (Russia), VEREYA (Russia), Leha Chicanos (Belarus), DJ Slava Shalygin (Russia) , DJ Dr.Ethno aka Nazim Nadirov (Russia/Turkey), Tibetan Buddhist monks from Phiyang Monastery (Ladakh, India), TROJAN SOUNDSYSTEM from Russia and others.

At the first festival day, September, 25th , the films about urban and rural folklore will be shown.

The program includes:
"Sundress" (Scenario writer and director – A.Streljanaja, Russia). Wedding eve night. The film tells us about ancient rituals and traditions, original ceremonies which were used during weddings and courtship.
The Russian premiere of the film "From the heart of Odessa" (Scenario writer and director - Andre Schreuders, Netherlands. Documentary, 60 min) - a film about modern Odessa, its inhabitants and its music. Alec Kopyt, a musician living in Amsterdam, comes back to the Moldavanka, the
Jewish quarter of Odessa, his native land and the cradle of the music known as blatnyak.

The second day of the festival, Friday, September, 26th , is dedicated to the female vocal. We would like to show a variety and beauty of the female vocal in the 'world music' style, from traditional singing (BELORYBITSA, PTITSA TYLOBURDO, NAMGAR, VEREJA) to modern one mixed with rock (IVA NOVA) or electronics (ORANGE BLOSSOM, VOLGA, ATLANTIDA).

The night program of the day will be rather dancing, and the cult reggae singer GENERAL LEVY is responsible for that; one of the very first influential and talented producers in style ragga-jungle and dubstep JACKY MURDA; DJ Dr.Ethno and TROJAN SOUNDSYSTEM from Russia.

On Saturday, September, 27, the heavy ethnoartillery from neofolk, folk rock, folk punk groups is in store for you: ALAMAAILMAN VASARAT, SKAZY LESA and NERVENKLINIK; as well as Gypsy-Balkan rhythms from ZDOB SI ZDUB, SWING COUTURE and OPA NOVIY GOD. On the foyer stage this day is music in urban folklore style, and its best representatives Psoy Korolenko, Garik Osipov, LA MINOR, and also Belarussian visitors SEREBRYANAYA SVAD'BA and Lyoha Tshykanas. Everything will end up with dances to Balkan beats from DJ Slava Shalygin.

The final day, Sunday, September, 28th , will be the pacifying performance VADJRA - dances and church chanting of the Tibetan monks from Phiyang monastery (Ladakh, India).

The Festival "Ethnomechanica" is held with the support of the Saint Petersburg Committee of Culture, Finnish Institute and Fund LUSES.
